I prepared the entrance examination myself according to advices of staffs of the department of Urology.
What kind of research did you do while you were enrolled at Tokushima University? Could you please share any difficulties you faced in your research? Also, when you had difficulties, how did you overcome them?
My research was about urological cancers. My PhD paper was “Enhancement of osteoclastogenic activity in osteolytic prostate cancer cells by physical contact with osteoblasts” which was published in the British Journal of Cancer. This research work was carried out collaboratively under the supervision of Professor Hiroomi Kanayama in the Department of Urology and Professor Hisanori Uehara in the Department of Molecular and Environmental Pathology. Moreover, five papers were published in the Department of Urology, as а co-author. Research works were conducted under the guidance and supervision of the faculty members of the department, so I did not encounter much difficulties. Challenges which were encountered during the course of the research I could overcome successfully with assistance and quidance from my supervisors and colleagues.

Please tell us about your memories of Tokushima and Tokushima University during your stay.
During my period of study, I was honored to participate in clinical practice through the Department of Urology, having been granted the Foreign Medical Practitioner Certificate of Permission for Advanced Clinical Training by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. I was deeply grateful for this valuable opportunity.
All of these meaningful experiences were made possible with the support and encouragement of the faculty and staff of Tokushima University. I would like to express my deepest and lifelong gratitude, especially to Professor Hiroomi Kanayama and Professor Uehara, as well as Dr. Hirofumi Izaki, Dr. Tomoharu Fukumori, Dr. Hiroyoshi Nakatsuji and others staffs of The University of Tokushima who continuously supported, guided, and encouraged us throughout our journey.
What was your impression of Tokushima and Japan?
I spent for four years pursuing my doctoral studies in Tokushima, Japan, where I lived together with my family—my wife and a daughter. During this time, my family was blessed with the birth of our second daughter. My elder daughter attended Sako Elementary School in Tokushima, where she learned about Japanese culture, made many friends, and created unforgettable memories. Although, I have successfully completed and defended my doctoral degree in medical sciences, I faced significant health challenges during this period. My family and I are especially grateful to many individuals of Tokushima University for helping us overcome this difficult time. Every moment we spent in Japan has become an irreplaceable and cherished memory for my family.
