On August 1st and 2nd, 2026, the "29th Science Experience Festival in Tokushima" was held at the Faculty of Science and Technology.
This festival allows children to experience the fun and wonder of science through hands-on experiments and crafting activities, and it has become a beloved annual summer event in the local community.
This year, participation was based on advance registration; we received 2,055 applications for a capacity of 992 spots.
A total of 1,877 people—including participants and their accompanying people—attended the event, where many children were seen enthusiastically engaging in the various activities.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologize to those who applied but were unable to participate due to the lottery selection process.
In addition to booths offering various science experiments and craft activities for elementary school students, we once again set up booths for junior high school students, continuing the initiative from last year.
This year, we extended the session time for the junior high school booths from 30 minutes to 50 minutes and enriched the content to allow for deeper learning.
We also exhibited "Suiran," the aircraft built by Tokushima University's students team that competed in the "Birdman Contest 2026" on July 25th and 26th. Children viewed the aircraft up close and even sat in the cockpit, showing great fascination with its size and intricate construction.
Participants shared comments such as, "I learned so many new things," and "The experiments were really fun."
Tokushima University will continue to enhance these events, aiming to share the appeal of science and the joy of learning with local children.
