A Signing Ceremony Was Held to Establish a Tokushima University Office within Mongolian National Medical University (MNUMS).

On Thursday, June 4th, 2026, Tokushima University held a signing ceremony at the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS), one of our academic exchange partner institutions, to establish the “Tokushima University Office / SATREPS Project” within MNUMS. The agreement was signed by President Damdindorj Boldbaatar of MNUMS and President Yasuhiko Kawamura of Tokushima University.

The partnership between the two universities began in 2005 with an inter-faculty agreement between the Schools of Medicine. It later expanded to include the Schools of Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, eventually developing into a university-level agreement. Over the past 20 years, the two institutions have built a strong and enduring relationship through education, research, and academic exchange.

In recent years, a joint research under the SATREPS program has made significant progress, particularly in infectious disease research and human resource development. Establishing a local base is essential for sustaining and further advancing these international initiatives. In addition, the number of students from Mongolia studying at Tokushima University has been increasing, and collaborative educational programs such as double-degree initiatives are becoming more active.

The newly established “Tokushima University Office / SATREPS Project” is expected to serve as a “gateway to the future,” accelerating these collaborative efforts. Research Professor Koma Takaaki, who leads the SATREPS joint research with Mongolia, will be stationed in Ulaanbaatar for an extended period to play a central role in promoting research activities and strengthening exchanges between the two universities.

We hope that this office will become a place where researchers and students from both institutions can interact freely, generate new ideas, and where faculty members and students of MNUMS can easily stop by as a welcoming “gateway to Tokushima.”

Through the establishment of this office, Tokushima University looks forward to deepening mutual learning and support with MNUMS, and to contributing together to the future development of medicine and academia.
