Tokushima University Delegation Visits the Mongolia–Japan Hospital

A series of commemorative events celebrating the 20th anniversary of academic exchange between Tokushima University and Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS), our partner university under an academic exchange agreement, was held in Mongolia from June 2 to 7, 2026. A delegation from Tokushima University, led by President Kawamura Yasuhiko, participated in the events, providing a valuable opportunity to reflect on the two universities’ twenty years of collaboration in education and research.

During the visit, the delegation toured the Mongolia–Japan Hospital. The hospital was established and has been supported since 2017 through a JICA project implemented by a consortium that includes Tokushima University and Ehime University. This year marks the ninth year of support. As the first university-affiliated teaching hospital in Mongolia, the Mongolia–Japan Hospital operates under MNUMS and has earned strong trust from the people of Mongolia through its patient-centered, team-based Japanese-style medical care. The hospital has made significant contributions to improving health and medical services in the country. We are also proud that Mongolian physicians who graduated from Tokushima University are working at the hospital and contributing to the advancement of healthcare in Mongolia.

On the day of the visit, the delegation was warmly and graciously welcomed by MNUMS President Damdindorj Boldbaatar, Director Bayasgalan Purevdorj, vice directors, and other senior administrators. President Damdindorj delivered opening remarks to welcome the delegation, followed by greetings from President Kawamura. The hospital then provided an overview of its activities through a slide presentation. After a commemorative group photo, the delegation toured various departments within the hospital and deepened their understanding of its initiatives.

Tokushima University takes great pride in the Mongolia–Japan Hospital’s substantial contributions to the health and well-being of the Mongolian people. We are committed to further strengthening our close relationship with the hospital and have renewed our determination to continue contributing to the advancement of healthcare and the well-being of the people of Mongolia.
