It has been a major challenge to reduce anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels. Behind the trend is the fact that increased carbon dioxide in the air causes global warming and adversely affects natural ecosystems. Further, the demands for lowering the burdens on the environment will continue to grow steadily. It is thus becoming important to understand the emission characteristics to minimize environmental disruption and to improve the efficiency of combustors. Considering the above situation, it is important to monitor controlling factors of combustors to improve the efficiency and exhaust gas treatment processes. In particular, measurement techniques for the parameters such as temperature and species concentration are necessary to elucidate the overall nature of combustion systems. Especially, 2D and 3D temperature and concentration distributions play an important role for the combustion structure and the combustor efficiency in engines, burners, gas turbines and so on.

Tokushima University has developed the CT-TDLAS technology to realize this "EYE of SCIENCE". CT-TDLAS is based on the combination of Computed Tomographic (CT) and Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy and it has been developed mainly by Prof. Yoshihiro Deguchi at Tokushima University for industrial applications. Since CT-TDLAS has a potential of kHz response time, this method enables real-time 2D temperature and species concentration measurements in various industrial processes.

The Consortium on CT- Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy was established by Tokushima University aimed at industrial applications in 2014. The consortium members include automobile companies, heavy industry makers, laser companies, measurement instrument makers, research institutions, and so on.

Feature

CT-TDLAS is a revolutionary measurement system which can detect time-series 2D temperature and concentration distributions in combustion, reaction and flow fields. It utilizes the Computed Tomography-Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy technology and it can be applied to engines (in-cylinder and exhausts), burners, boilers, gas turbines for time-series 2D temperature and concentration measurement(response time < 1ms).

Principle : Computed  Tomography-Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy

Multi-path laser beams are introduced to the measurement area and 2D temperature and concentration distributions are reconstructed by CT using multi-path absorption spectra.

Target:Engines, Burners, Boilers, Gas turbines, etc.

Temperature(300-2000K), Concentration(CH4, NH3, CO2, H2O, and so on)
