Main theme of our department is to elucidate striatal functions in the brain motor circuits and to investigate cellular and molecular pathomechanism underlying the genesis of movement disorders that include X-linked dystonia-parkinsonism. In particular, we are very interested in the functional roles of the striatal compartment architectures (i.e., striosomes and matrix compartment) in the brain circuits and disorders. We are also in search for development of novel and new therapies for Parkinson’s disease, hereditary dystonia, poststroke spasticity, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and drug addiction.
