Field Trip for International Students

2017-1-17

From December 17 to 18, the International Center held a study tour for international students. The aim of the field trip was for the students to gain experience in Japanese culture, history and technology, and get to know each other and the faculty and staff better.

On the first day, they visited the Suntory Beer Kyoto brewery and the Kyoto Railway Museum. At the Suntory Beer Kyoto brewery, a member of staff explained the beer production line. The large-scale but delicate process was fascinating. At the Kyoto Railway Museum, the students learned about Japanese railway technology and its history. Some said they would have liked more time to enjoy the exhibits up-close.

On the second day, the students visited Kinkaku-ji, Kiyomizudera, and Fushimi Inari Shrine to learn about Japanese culture. Here they learned about traditional Japanese buildings, and could experience their size and magnificence by walking among them.

Forty people took part including the international students. It was an opportunity not only for the students to understand Japan better, but also to get to know each other better. The International Center will continue to plan study visits that enable international students to gain a more effective understanding of Japanese culture, history and technology, taking into account their needs.
