Tokushima University Faculty of Engineering students compete in the world championship amateur radio direction finding competition

Maya Bando from the 2nd year of the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has been selected to represent Japan in the Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) world championships organized by the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU).

The ARDF is a competition to discover radio transmitters hidden within the competition area using a direction finding receiver. Participants compete on the number of transmitters found within a predetermined time and their time, which requires intellect and stamina. Maya Bando made thorough use of her knowledge of amateur radio, honed in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. She won the all-Japan ARDF contest held in November last year, and participated as a member in the world championships in Bulgaria from September 3 to 9 in 2016.
