Signing of an intercollegiate academic exchange agreement with Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and Opening Ceremony for the Academic Centre (TMAC)

2014-10-14

On September 22, President Kagawa, Vice President Hosoi, Dean of the Engineering Faculty Kawamura and others visited the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (hereafter UTeM) to conclude an academic exchange agreement between the two universities. In January 2013, Tokushima’s Faculty of Engineering and UTeM signed an interdepartmental exchange agreement, and in October that year, there was an exchange of students on the double degree program. The current university-level agreement expands on that.

Then on September 23, there was an opening ceremony for the University of Tokushima and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka Academic Centre (TMAC) on the UTeM campus.

Ibrahim Abu Ahmad, Senior Deputy Under-Secretary of Malaysia’s Strategic Planning Division of Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and Makio Miyagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia were welcomed as guests. They opened the Centre with a tape cutting ceremony. After the ceremony, the teleconferencing system at the Centre was used to communicate with the Josanjima Campus, and words of encouragement were sent to Malaysian students currently studying at Tokushima.

The Centre will be managed jointly by Tokushima and UTeM in accordance with the intercollegiate academic exchange agreement. It was established as a base for exchange between the two universities. The teleconferencing system will be used for Japanese language lessons for UTeM students, and also when Tokushima students do internships in Malaysia. In addition, J-TMAC has been established in the University of Tokushima as a branch office and a base for cooperation. In October, UTeM is scheduled to invite an education and research unit from Tokushima, and this is expected to result in more intensive academic exchanges between the two universities.
