2012-3-30

The 8th University of Tokushima International Coordination Symposium was held on March 1 at the Awa Kanko Hotel with the theme “Looking back to my time as an international student at the University of Tokushima”. The symposium was planned by the Office for International Cooperation Strategy and the International Center. Former international students were invited to talk about their contributions back in their own countries since graduation.

After an opening address from President Kagawa and an explanation of the purpose of the symposium from Kiyoshi Fukui, Director of the International Center, four former international students talked about their life at Tokushima, their research during their study in Japan, and their current work. They mentioned episodes where the local people of Tokushima were especially kind, reminding everyone of the importance of extramural goodwill in supporting international exchange at the university. They spoke in fluent Japanese and the audience of around 120 listened intently to their talk.

After the talk there was a panel discussion which reinforced the message that international students currently studying at the university should actively engage with Japanese people, and the importance of time spent studying abroad.

At the end, President Kagawa presented the four former international students with a letter of appreciation and a souvenir of their visit.
