Signing of an interdepartmental academic and research exchange agreement with the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Science Faculty of Health Care and Nursing

2011-12-6

On November 8, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Toshiaki Tamaki, Dean of the School of Health Sciences Toshiko Tada, Professor Hirofumi Nagashino, Yoshikazu Takatsuki of General Affairs, and Assistant Director of the Faculty of Medicine Fumie Murasawa (international coordinator) visited the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Science Faculty of Health Care and Nursing. With Faculty Dean Elina Ericksson, Manager for Degrees Marianne Pitkajarvi, and International Coordinator Aija Ahokas, they discussed the academic exchanges between the two faculties to date, and discussed future academic exchanges including radiology in addition to nursing science. The two faculties then signed an academic exchange agreement.

Last year, the University of Tokushima Faculty of Dentistry and the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Science Department of Dentistry signed an interdepartmental agreement. However, the Metropolia University of Applied Science became interested in pursuing exchanges with Tokushima in the field of nursing science as well, and raised the possibility of an academic exchange agreement with our School of Health Sciences. Since exchanges with Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Science Faculty of Health Care and Nursing would be highly beneficial for enhancing joint research between the School of Health Sciences and overseas universities, as well as for faculty and student exchanges, the university decided to conclude an interdepartmental academic exchange agreement.

Even before the agreement was signed, two students from the School of Health Sciences did a short-term course at the Metropolia University of Applied Science from August to September this year, and next year, three students from that institution are scheduled to complete a similar course here. In addition to these student exchanges, the current intercollegiate exchange agreement is expected to result in further joint research and more active exchanges of faculty and students.
