Message from the Dean

Tetsuo Ichikawa, D.D.S., Ph.D., Dean

Welcome to the Faculty of Dentistry!

It is a great pleasure to answer your interest in the University of Tokushima Faculty of Dentistry on the home page. Ever since this school was established in 1976 as the only dental school in Shikoku Island and the 8th national dental school in Japan, approximately 1650 students have graduated from it. Most of them, as dental clinicians, are playing important roles in the prevention and treatment of oral diseases at various places in Japan. Some of them have aggressively become scientists or clinicians in several University of Dental Schools in Japan, and so far, over 10 of our graduates have successfully become professors.

In 2004, the Graduate School of Dentistry was renamed as the Graduate School of Oral Sciences. In 2007, the School of Oral Health Welfare was established as a part of our faculty. Graduates of this school are qualified for the national examinations for dental hygienists and social workers.

Our vision is to set the standard of excellence in oral science and to live up to our motto “Advancing oral science in order to create and sustain a healthy society with increased longevity.” With this vision, our faculty is dedicated to developing and fostering a community of global and regional leaders advancing oral health and life science.

Do join us in promoting oral health and oral science!
