Instructions for Graduate School Application for International Students(Submit Graduate Record Examination(GRE)Test score)

This application process is made for international students who have difficulty to visit Japan to take examination. Each Applicant must obtain approval from potential supervising professor before submitting an application. Please make contact with a potential supervising professor.

2. Applicant Qualifications

  1. One who has completed 18 years of education abroad and has or will have graduated an undergraduate program before March 31, 2018. The final school course must have been in dentistry, medicine, pharmacy or veterinary medicine.
  2. One who has completed a correspondence course given by an institution abroad and has completed 18 years of education before March, 2018 while residing in Japan. The final school course must have been in dentistry, medicine, pharmacy or veterinary medicine.
  3. One who has completed 18 years of education abroad and has or will have graduated an undergraduate program before March, 2018. In this case, the program of scholastic institution has been assessed in Japan to have university level courses in that education system comparable to those in Japan and specifically designated as such by the Minister of Education, Science and Culture. The final school course must have been in dentistry, medicine, pharmacy or veterinary medicine.
  4. One who has already had or expects to have a degree corresponding to that of a bachelor’s or professional’s through the completion of courses with a term of study for five years or more by March 31, 2018 (which includes the completion of an equivalent degree taken through a correspondence course in Japan provided by a foreign university, and also includes the completion of an equivalent degree issued by an educational institute which is designated as equivalent to those in Japan based on the conditions stated above and is acknowledged as a part of the formal education in the applicant’s home country) at a foreign university or another overseas educational institute (limited to those appropriately rated by an accreditation agent of the government of the applicant’s home country or by another officially approved accreditation institute, or specifically and independently designated as equivalent by the Minister of Education, Science and Culture).
  5. One who has completed 16 years of education abroad and has or will have graduated an undergraduate program before March 31, 2018. In this case, the applicant must be approved by the Graduate School of Oral Sciences of Tokushima University as one that has earned the necessary credits with outstanding grades. The final school course must have been in dentistry, medicine, pharmacy or veterinary medicine.
  6. One who has been approved by the Graduate School of Oral Sciences of Tokushima University as having scholastic abilities equivalent to or greater than that of one holding Bachelor’s Degree.

One who must meet one of the qualifications listed above and has or will be able to communicate in Japanese.

 

Notes:

  • Please make contact with a potential supervising professor of our Graduate School and have an interview via internet before submitting an application.
  • One who intends to apply in the categories (1), (2), (3) or (4) listed above needs to send “Application Form” and “Certificate of Graduation” in PDF files to Office of Admissions and Student Affairs, Faculty of Dentistry in Tokushima University (isygakumu2k@tokushima-u.ac.jp). The certificate of graduation must issue from he college or university which the applicant has graduated or will be graduating.
  • One who intends to apply in the categories (5) or (6) listed above must get through the screening ahead of submission. Please send the “Pre-Judgment Form,” “Official Transcript” and "Certificate of Graduation" to Office of Admissions and Student Affairs, Faculty of Dentistry in Tokushima University before December 8 (Friday), 2017, by registered air mail. The academic transcript must issue from the college or university which the applicant has graduated or will be graduating.
  • One who applied for the GRE admission is not allowed to take our examination of the same Ph.D. course (Oral Sciences) which is scheduled on the same year and same period.

 

3. Selection Procedure

  1. Successful applicants for the Doctoral program will be selected based on an evaluation of their applications, submitted documents, and GRE and TOEFL scores.
  2. The Graduate School of Oral Sciences of University of Tokushima rejects applicants whose GRE Subject Test or TOEFL test scores fall beneath our cut off level.
  3. GRE and TOEFL test scores are invalid if the test were taken more than two years before the date of the application. Applicants whose native language is English are exempted from submitting a TOEFL score.

Notes:

  • The GRE code number for the Graduate School of Oral Sciences of Tokushima University is 0309. Please enter this code on your answer sheet when you take the examination. In case you need the record of test taken previously you should also enter this code on Score Report Request Forms. The Official Score will then be sent directly to the Admission Office of Graduate School of Oral Sciences of Tokushima University from Educational Testing Service(ETS).

  1. TOEFL Score (Please submit both the Official Score Report and a copy of your Examinee’s Score Record)

 

Note:

Please request ETS to deliver your Official Score Report to the Graduate School of Oral Sciences of Tokushima University before July 21 (Friday), 2017. The TOEFL number for the Graduate School of Oral Sciences of Tokushima University is 2795. Please enter this code on your answer sheet when you take the examination. In case you need the record of tests taken previously you should also enter this code on score Report Request Forms. The Official Score will then be sent directly to the Graduate School of Oral Sciences of Tokushima University from Education Testing Service.


  1. One recommendation letter from supervisor or Dean who are holding on the college or university which the applicant has graduated or will be graduating.
  2. Original academic transcript of college or university which the applicant has graduated or will be graduating.
  3. The statement of completion of college or university which the applicant has graduated or will be graduating.
  4. Payment confirmation of the Examination Fee. (Voucher or notice which proofs the examination fee had confirmed.)
  5. Transcript of Master’s Program. A copy of Master’s thesis and copies of papers or scientific publications (if applicable).

 

Notes:

  • Japanese or English translations of transcript, statement of completion or diploma, and recommendation letters must be officially issued by the institution which the original is from (indispensable when the original documents are written in languages other than Japanese/English).
  • All documents are non-returnable.

 

5. Application Period

From January 4 (Thursday), 2018 to January 18 (Thursday), 2018. From 9 to 17 o’clock on Japan time. 

The application must be postmarked before January 18 (Tursday), 20178.

 

6. Examination Fee

30,000 yen


The applicants who live abroad are able to make a payment by credit card(ex: VISA, MasterCard, JCB, AMERICAN EXPRESS et al.) or China UnionPay(银联卡/銀聯卡).  Please visit the portal site, “Tokushima University International Student Portal” (http://admission.isc.tokushima-u.ac.jp/english/), and submit your application. In addition, we will send your ID and PASSCODE by e-mail, in order to make a payment for examination fee by credit card once we affirmed you as a qualified applicant.

 

7. Annual Cost (Expected annual budget for year 2018)

  1. Admission Fee: 282,000 yen
  2. Tuition Fee: Doctoral Program: 267,900 yen (535,800 yen for annually)
    (In case there is an amendment of the fees, new fees may apply from the time the amendment becomes effective.)
  3. Casualty and accident insurance for students’ education and research: 3,370 yen (covers four years)
  4. Tokushima University student affairs fund: 11,000 yen (covers four years, include initial fee)

**The Dental School of University of Tokushima provides subsidy system which is available for privately funded foreign student. In case, one who has already received scholarship may not benefit from this subsidy system.

 

8.Announcement of application results(Sent by mail, displayed at the University of Tokushima, and posted on the portal site)

The result will be mailed to the applicant and displayed on bulletin board at Tokushima University from 10:00, March 9 (Friday), 2018. Also, the result will be uploaded to the portal site (http://admission.isc.tokushima-u.ac.jp/english/) until March 31.
(Tokushima University does not respond to the inquiry by a telephone and E-mail about the result.)
